When I start a new day
I light a candle
I say a prayer for my returning health
for my dear daughter Emily
I begin my day feeding my cats
who a chirping before they get their food
I walk 300 steps and sit down and drink my coffee
I eat a fig bar
I reconsider my options
The greatest gift is the silence I have
Living alone has its advantages
I write a few lines
I discover my soul on these lines
I call a friend in Chicago
We laugh we cry we are like sisters
I begin my day so quiet
You can hear a pin drop in the forest of angels.
Breathe!
