In these cities I came
Rutherford
Spring Valley
Bridgewater
I became a poet
a writer of history
a writer of my own history
In these small towns I came to be.
I worked cash and compassion
in my father's drugstore
Christmas time was our time to shine.
On these tree-lined streets
At the Station Square market
On benches
At the library
I listened to small talk.
I recall these stories
a kaleidoscope
that shaped my vision.
