Looking at lettuce
closely
scrubbing radishes
encountering dreams on a counter top
from the 60's
a working kitchen
that's all I ask
celery waiting to be chopped
onion too, a thin paper skin
I cut the red pepper
saute the veal
mash the garlic
throw in shallots
fresh lemon
olive oil at the base
"Not bad for an amateur
cook--
Acutally, I am a writer."
I imbide food now
the vegetable parade
mushrooms roll down the 60's counter
" What an encounter!"
the kitchen flloor stares
at me
I answer her,
"Yes I am there,
really there."
